LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE YOUR FLUFFY FRIEND’S OPERATION A SUCCESS

Our Durham veterinarians will administer general anaesthetics to make your pet’s operation comfortable and less stressful. However, after the treatment, you’ll need to take the following measures to ensure that their recovery is as trouble-free and comfortable as possible:

  • Administer medication correctly: Follow the instructions on the label when giving prescribed medication.
  • Feed your pet normally: Feed your cat or dog regular portions. After all, an empty stomach is the last thing they need.
  • Prepare their environment: Avoid infection by making sure your pet’s sleeping area is dry and clean.
  • Limit activity: For the first two weeks, try to prevent your pet from running or jumping too much. This will protect the incision and will prevent any infection or pain from developing.
  • Keep them dry: Avoid bathing your pet for the first two weeks. This will reduce the chance of infection.
  • Allow the incision to heal: If necessary, we can provide a cone-shaped collar that will stop your animal from licking or scratching the incision.

You should also monitor your pet’s behaviour during the first 48 hours following the operation. If you notice discharge, bleeding or an unpleasant odour coming from the incision, contacts us immediately.
